My macro photography work has been featured on the BBC, La Republica, The South China Morning Post, outdoorphotographer.com, F Stoppers, Lightstalking, The Photography Blogger, Photography Vox, Cognysis, Wertn.com, PM.net, The Smithsonian Magazine, "I F*cking Love Science" webzine, Pentax Premiere Gallery, Pentax Exclusive Gallery, Pentaxforums and in the local media, together with a variety of other online media. My work has been exhibited in London, Newcastle, Stockport, Bristol, Reading, Weybridge, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Peterborough and Uxbridge and I am a Pentax Ambassador.

The macro photography workshops that I run are based around on the talks I've given at various photography clubs, and are aimed at all levels of photographers, from professional wildlife photographers to enthusiastic amateurs. Typically we'll start out at my house in Holmbury St.Mary (Surrey), in the centre of the Hurtwood, and then we'll move on to shoot macro in the local North Downs. Or we can do focus stacking upstairs in my macro studio - I am completely flexible, what we do is entirely up to you! But please let me know beforehand so I can prep properly.

Full Day Macro Photography Workshop

The full day workshop has a nice feature that I don't do on the half day, namely I'll set my Robinson mothtrap for you the previous day so that we can take some great shots of the moths against leaves and branches during your workshop. Believe it or not moths are on the wing every night of the year so, weather permitting, we'll should get some decent insect macro shots. June and July are especially good for this - this is when the Elephant Hawkmoth is out and about, the stunning creature at the bottom of this page.

What To Bring to your Macro Photography Workshop

There really is plenty of macro gear available here for you to use and try out, but I'd advise you to practice with your own equipment as well, as that's what you're going to be using. A 1:1 macro lens is the best; for a crop sensor DSLR I'd recommend a lens with a 60mm minimum focal length, and for a full frame DSLR a lens with a minimum 100mm focal length. That said if you want to do more extreme macro (ie 1:1 to 10:1) then you'll want something more specialized, such as the lenses on this site. But if you don't have one you can always use one of mine. Also, knowing the British weather, you'll probably want walking boots, a hat and a sensible rain-proof coat of some sort!
